It’s been a long time since I’ve played piano (if that’s what you can call it) so imagine my joy to see this strategically placed pink piano on my walk over the bridge… just had to plant myself down for a few minutes, enjoy the view and try to come up with a tune.
Well at least I tried! I think the Red piano in Vegas performs better.
Next up on my doc list are these two, which also happen to be about two of my favourite singers:
High Priestess of Soul – Nina Simone
The documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone? is the story of legendary singer and activist Nina Simone. It chronicles her extraordinary life using never-before-heard recordings, rare archival footage and her best-known songs.
The film examines the woman behind the legend, from her childhood as a musical prodigy to her role as a prominent civil rights activist, touching on the beautiful and also troubling moments of her life. It paints a more complex portrait of the famous musician than you might imagine, even spotlighting her complicated relationship with her daughter. It’s just been released on Netflix. FADE to BLACK:
Singer Amy Winehouse performs during the MTV Europe Awards ceremony in Munich in this November 1, 2007 file photo.
An original! Brilliant, troubled Amy Winehouse sadly passed on way too early. “The more people see me the more they’ll realize all I’m good for is making music.”
The world would have embraced a lot more where that came from.
It was really Sunday, but it may well have been Friday because where good music is concerned, any day of the week feels right. WE NEED TO DANCE MORE!
I had a blast at Central Bistro (a friendly neighbourhood bar/restaurant in Vancouver) meeting up with three friends after a barbeque for a glass of wine, great music with the talented Kentish Steele on vocals and my friend, the super gifted Doug Louie, on keyboard. They played oldies by Smoky Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, etc. and we couldn’t keep to our seats finding space wherever we could to get up and dance. People were coming in off the street after hearing the music from outside.
On the menu: Ratatouille stuffed organic chicken breast.
So tonight I’ll be out dancing elsewhere because it makes me feel good -and feeling good is what life is all about.
What kind of music makes you jump out of your seat to dance?
Central Bistro (they have a pretty good menu) 1072 Denman Street, Vancouver. Live Jazz on Sundays starting at 7:00 pm
