Beauty – Suzanne Somers Organics

Well; why not? There may be more competition in the skincare department but when the packaging has Suzanne Somers cred, listen up ladies.

I haven’t tried or even seen the skincare line but a friend of mine let me try her coco mango body butter and let me tell you….it was simply divine…ssbody1    I immediately felt like I was somewhere tropical.  Actually we were somewhere tropical but never mind those details.  It really felt luxurious and moisturizing.  And well…mango & coconut – what’s not to love?  These are two of my favourite ingredients in frozen yogurt & gummies too.  There is also Peppermint Cream and Rain Body Butter (which more than likely includes actual rain – well, living in Vancouver I could have made that one). Apparently they’re all food grade, so you know……extra benefits there.

Here is all the nitty gritty:

BENEFITS

  • SUZANNE Organics utilizes a natural, non-GMO (not genetically modified) new generation thickener and stabilizer derived from olive oil. Richly hydrates and protects skin, allowing it to retain moisture without clogging pores.
  • This luxurious, moisturizing body butter nurtures your skin. Abundant rich moisturizers create the look of smooth, beautiful skin rich with antioxidants.
  • Your skin’s barrier is fortified by this formula to prevent loss of important moisture. *The aging process is affected by moisture loss.
  • Enjoy a healthier, more youthful appearance on your skin with a natural scent that will make you feel like you are on vacation (yeah!).
  • No synthetic, toxic fragrances based on phthalates.
  • Created with certified organic, therapeutic grade essential oils and fruit juice essences. The essences are certified organic flavors used by organic juice, ice cream, yogurt, etc. manufacturers.
  • Coconut (Cocos nucifera) Oil supports the look of healthy skin, softens skin and helps relieve dryness and flaking. Helps improve the look of sagging skin, and age spots.
  • Shea Butter (Butyrosperum parkii) is a superior moisturizing agent. It contains a vast quantity of Vitamin E, and aids in the look of optimal skin health.
  • Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) Oil is high in oleic oil with balanced amounts of high oleic acids, vitamins and minerals. Provides high performance moisturizing benefits to soothe, nourish and soften the skin.
  • Made in the United States.

TO USE:
Apply liberally wherever skin is dry. Glide over skin and rub in lightly. Excessive “rubbing-in” is not necessary as this formula is designed to leave a layer to help promote moisture into the skin. Can be used as a hand cream and foot cream as well.

Personally…I don’t want to become a TANorexic!

Summer is just around the corner (it started earlier than usual in Vancouver) and some of us are feeling that we look a tad too pale.  What’s a white girl to do?

Fake it, of course – what else?

a natural example
a natural example

Start to shake up the St. Tropez self-tanning mousse and start slathering. Then somebody you know happens to comment that you’re looking really tan.  You say “thank you” and they say “no, I mean like reeaally tanned” and then you’re feeling not so sure that it’s a nice compliment – like you overdid it with the bottle.

You try to cut back but it is really difficult especially once you start to see results (George Hamilton comes to mind).  You must repeat this on a daily basis until you obtain the color you want (which is the “perfect” fake tan) but the lines become blurred because you never can tell if you’re tan enough.  It’s a tough circle.

A Tanorexic is similar to an Anorexic in the sense that the person isn’t aware of how “tan” they really are, even if another person tells them they are.  Is there a 12-step program to deal with this?

I thought I was the first person to come up with this term but it turns out that Wikipedia already has a description (which I added to):

Tanning addiction (see photos below for poor examples) is a rare syndrome where an individual appears to have a physical or psychological addiction to sunbathing or the use of tanning beds and/or spray tans – usually resulting in an overly orange or dark complexion and body color.  This may or may not include a strange scented body odor although now you can find some sprays/lotions that don’t smell too bad (stop that!).

Come on….who else is guilty?

It doesn’t really have to be this way!

Drug Store Delights- dry oil product review

FRUCTIS TRIPLE NUTRITION “Miracle Dry Oil” by Garnier
Triple LotionNot “just” another product for the bathroom shelf – although I was a bit skeptical.  Take it for what it is:
A miracle multi-use dry oil enriched with olive, avocado and almond oils that seems to deliver rapid nourishment to hydrate dry hair and skin without the oiliness.  A lot of bang for your buck – it only costs about $6.00.
Perfect for traveling as it comes in a 5 fl oz. (150 ml) plastic spray bottle.  It smells really nice (a bit floral + bit fruity) but it’s light and not overpowering.  I already use an oil for face but for dry areas it seems to work & sinks right in. Do not spray directly on face – spray onto your palm first & use sparingly. For legs & arms it absorbs great.
Haven’t tried it on my hair yet but it probably works as well as the Moroccan oil I have.  In any event for the price it’s definitely worth trying.  Wouldn’t you agree?
001Bio-Oil – the true “Miracle” Oil?
Bio‑Oil has won 135 skincare awards and has become the No.1 selling scar and stretch mark product in 16 countries since its global launch in 2002.
We’ll see as I’ve been testing it out for about a month now on my knees (which were badly scraped from a fall last summer).  It seems to have helped to reduce the scars which now appear more faint.  It would have helped more to use it immediately after but better late than never.
The *Bio‑Oil formulation is a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base. It contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil™, which changes the formulation’s overall consistency, making it light and non-greasy.
*You can buy this product at Costco too (comes in a two-pack, one large & one regular size) which will last you a lifetime – even if you live to be 200.
