Simple and Satisfying Herb Butter

Tuesday is Recipe Day.  On Tuesday’s i’m going to post something i’ve personally made which has been worthwhile and very tasty. If you love cooking with herbs you’ll love this  one. What do you do with leftover herbs you don’t want to waste or fresh ones from your garden?

HERB BUTTER

8 tbsp. unsalted butter, softened

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

1 tbsp. lemon juice

1 tbsp. chopped shallot

1 tsp. chopped garlic

1/4 cup chopped parsley

1 tbsp. each chopped chives, sage, thyme and tarragon

Mixed Herb Butter

Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend.  You can also freeze this butter and use as needed not only on breads but corn, rice & pasta.  The recipe can also be varied.  For instance I made a cilantro, lime & chili butter for corn on the cob – yummy!

Helpful Household Hints

I’ve been collecting coffee mugs from different countries for a while now.  Every time I drink out of one it feels a bit exotic & reminds me of the place visited.  What about you?            What happens when a handle breaks, they get chipped or cracked on the inside but you still want to enjoy them?

Here’s an idea for your no longer of use coffee mugs.  Planting an herb or flower makes them useful again and looks so pretty.

Hand Painted Coffee Mugs from Israel, Italy & Mexico with Tarragon.

Or what about that Latte or Cappuccino Cup you never use?

So you may not be able to drink out of them but you can sure still enjoy looking at them.

SUMMER

**Blissed out on a beach.                                                                                                                **extremely happy & content; ecstatic or a trance-like happiness.

After a wet spring hiatus this blog is back on track for summer with some fresh tips on how to enjoy yourself.  Actually I don’t have time to tell you now as I have to get back out there.  Summer took forever to get here this year and it disappears all too quickly.  I can’t believe my August magazine subscriptions have now arrived.

The Jazz Festival (not just jazz) is now over and enjoyed another great success.  Looking forward to more upcoming Vancouver annual events like the Folk Music Festival (not only folk music), with all the vendors along Jericho beach, Kits Days (30 bands this year on 4th Ave.),  Caribbean Days, Celebration of Light Fireworks & the Pride Parade and Festival.  Enjoy your summer but stay tuned for more updates!

BAD HABITS

People spend a lot of time trying to break habits using willpower but research is showing that habits are the opposite of willpower.  With willpower, you have to make a decision, which can be derailed by life’s stresses.  Habits require no willpower, no decision – they stick because they are effortless and automatic.

The key to changing behaviour is to reinforce the habits you want with the right reward.  Or at least that’s what a recent article in Marie Claire magazine had to say.

Then does that mean if you’re a shopoholic in order to stop you must buy more?  If so, where’s the next shoe store?

Speaking of shoes………….

“Sea of Inspiration”

Summer is around the corner………or so it seems if you consider all the references to “the sea” in all the latest fashion magazines and on the runway.  Don’t we all gravitate towards things from the SEA?  We must make the most of summer months by wearing little summer dresses, seashell necklaces & carrying wicker handbags.  Oh; and flip flops.

From Marie Claire

Alright maybe it’s a bit premature but looking at these photos makes me feel better.

Carly Simon writes: Margot Datz’s ability to communicate a fragile and funny reality is unique to her. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Tell me as a little girl you never pretended to be a Mermaid.  There is something fascinating and mysterious about them.  This book by Margot Datz that I picked up in Florida is fabulous for us grown up mermaids.

It is a handbook for the landlocked mermaid, survival tips for the stranded sea nymph’s soul.

The world has changed but Fairytales are still going strong if it’s any indication from all the new movies coming out.

An excerpt

Have you ever seen a mermaid’s lingerie?  She invented the fishnet stockings!  She put the naughty in nautical!
