Take a sneak peek into Yves Saint Laurent’s studio
Colourful Block Dress: Tribute to Piet Mondrian
as the first YSL exhibition is to be held in the UK this summer. The Bowes Museum and the Foundation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent – which is headed up by Pierre Bergé, the designer’s partner – have collaborated to bring the retrospective, entitled Yves Saint Laurent: Style is Eternalto Britain.

The exhibition will run through July 11th until October 25th and will be held at Bowes Museum which is a stunning castle near Newcastle, England.
Props from his studio and sketches will also be on display.
I may have to make a trip to England this coming summer.
To this day the YSL “le smoking” jacket remains my all-time favourite piece.
Do you have a favourite YSL outfit, bag, shoe, perfume, lipstick……?
Fashion and Art have always been inextricably intertwined. Think Yves Saint Laurent’s 1965 MondrianDressor the designs Elsa Schiaparelli conjured in the 1930’s from sketches and photos by Salvador Dali.
Looking back to Berlin-based Anselme Reyle’s limited edition collaboration for Christian Dior’s most fabulousaccessories.Known for his large scale abstract paintings and found object sculptures, Reyle delved deep into the label’s DNA, pinpointing such iconic pieces as the Lady Dior bag and infusing them with boldly toned twists or camouflage prints and just a splash of top-stitching on an ankle-strap wedge.
Reyle shot to fame in late 2007, when his stripe paintings sold for six figure sums, even as works by Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst remained unsold. Earlier that year, the artist’s profile received a boost when a purple foil-in-Plexiglas box sold for $192,000 at auction in London.
Reyle, whose works are characterized by bold brushwork, neon paint, 80s kitsch and silver foil, has also showcased his work at the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen, the Gagosian in New York, Tate Modern in London and also showcased his abstract work in Mumbai.
Along with shoes, handbags and sunglasses…a girl can never have too many bathing suitsI brought two bikinis to Palm Springs but was really craving a retro one-piece that would be perfect for poolside. Okay maybe it was just an excuse to buy a new swimsuit. Then my sister told me that Trina Turk, who has a beautiful store in Palm Springs, was most famous for her swimwear. Fast forward…to my new tankini – which reminds me of Emilio Pucci 60’s mod-style glamour. It will look great while sipping mimosas poolside…and oh yeah, swimming.
About Trina:
Infused with bold signature prints and dynamic hues unique to each collection, Trina’s modern and optimistic outlook meld the best of classic American design with a California confidence, incorporating beautiful fabrications and impeccable quality for the effortless elan and carefree glamour.
The Mr Turk menswear line conveys a California dapper style and carries on the brand’s affection for vibrant color and print. Men who want to make asartorial statement can now select from among jackets, shirts, pants, shorts, swimwear, ties and bowties designed by Jonathan Skow. A well-known stylist and photographer, Skow does all the photography for the Trina Turk and Mr Turk brands, and also designs the distinctive men’s line.
The couple split their time between two historic, mid-century homes in Los Angeles’ creative enclave of Silver Lake and in Palm Springs, interspersed with travels up and down the coastline and around the world. A favorite pastime is vintage shopping and their educated collectors’ eyes discover inspiration in any new destination, near or far. They also share a keen passion for architectural preservation.
Okay, I’m talking mainly on vacation here but it’s great that white or versions of white (like off-white, winter white, antique white, ivory, & cream) are being worn more in winter now.
In a perfect world I would be wearing white (and its various counterparts) with colourful accents like jewelry, scarves and shoes with wild abandon & no need to carry a clorax bleach pen (not unlike tide-to-go but for whites only) because nothing would get in the way of spoiling my whites. Not chocolate, not coffee, not red wine nor spices like saffron and tumeric. It would just always remain unstained and looking pure. In other words, perfect right? So, it was super exciting to find out (from another blog I follow so you see – what goes around, comes around) that The Webster, Miami and Bon Marché, Paris were collaborating on an all-white collection. There are more than 50 designers involved in the partnership across fashion, beauty, and home, including Chanel, Dior, Chloe… and the list goes on and on. The best part is also the worst part – all-white designs will only be available from The Webster and Bon Marché – but only until February 21, 2015. Yes, it will feel extra special because of this but if you don’t live in either locale you better hurry up and book your ticket. Not much time left.
Okay, I’m ready to book my flight to Miami or Paris. Who’s with me?
I always knew that orange was a neutral! From beauty looks to fashion, orange has become a key wardrobe essential adding much needed brightness and colour to your winter wardrobe. From delicious tangerine to carrot shades and lighter honey hues, it’s all about injecting a little warmth into your wardrobe by adding powerful energy into your look.
The fiery hue was seen on the catwalk throughout fashion week, from orange stained lips at New York Fashion Week, to striking designs at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
Designers are jumping on board this dynamic trend combining it with luscious floral prints, contrasting paneling and sculptured detailing with unique fabrications. The hue has been cropping up time and time again in anything from true, juicy shades to red-tinged bricks and rusts.
Style Tips On Wearing Orange:
Don’t be afraid to mix with colour. Orange looks fab with yellow or similar hues for a striking look.
It’s okay to wear black with a vibrant orange but just make sure tobreak up the look with silver jewelery or contrasting accessories. You don’t want to look like a pumpkin.
Dress down with denim. Nothing adds a cool girl vibe more than teaming orange with skinny leg denim.
Add a feminine vibe with a sheer blouse or long-line tunic. This fabric and style adds a flattering and sophisticated touch.
Add white! Think a crisp white blazer jacket over an orange blouse.
Mix with prints. A floral printed orange top teamed with classic black pants.
Start out small. Add an orange clutch, beaded necklace or cocktail ring for a vibrant touch that is not too out there.
Add jewellery like orange beaded earrings, a statement necklace or stacked bangles to inject some flavour.
Orange shoes and an orange bag (both of which I have) only feels right for summer or resort wear.
For a casual weekend look, team with your favourite pair of jeans.
For the office, opt for a vibrant orange blouse teamed with a neurtral coloured pencil skirt and heels.
For night, you can easily vamp up a classic LBDwith an orange clutch or jewels.

Above all, don’t be afraid to make a statement with this gorgeous colour.
I also love these trench coats perfect to pick up your mood on a rainy day.
What about you? How would you incorporate orange into your style?
To HUG and to HOLDThere’s nothing worse than running or hiking with an overloaded fanny pack. And we need to carry our keys, our phones (god forbid we leave them for a little while) some cash, wipes and a lipstick. The very basics of an active lifestyle.
My sister gave me this as a stocking stuffer so that it can easily slip over my workout pants. At least for the several pairs that don’t come equipped with hidden pockets but thank you Lululemon for finally making some that do feature a zipper or hidden pocket here and there. It has two zippered pockets to make it convenient for stashing a few necessary items. It would also come in very handy for traveling not to mention more stylish than a money belt. They come in different colors and styles too. Oh yes; I will be wearing it often.

*Sisters get your phones out of your bras!! In all seriousness, we recommend that when your phone is carried close to your body (hipS-sister or not), it should be in “airplane mode” or turned off. We do not know with 100% certainty what the effects of cell phone use are on the body. Let’s be safe, our bodies are precious. Get into the habit.
Fits most phones including iPhone 6 plus and Samsung Galaxy.
And what a nice touch that some money will be donated to a very worthy cause:
How do you secure your belongings while running/hiking/working out?
There’s something chic about wearing a cape. At this time of year it’s not a constant but for in between the wet and very cold weather for those “off days” you can certainly pull it off (or on).
I think it’s a must in a woman’s wardrobe.
On the Autumn/Winter 2014 catwalk scene capes were coveted in a big way – check the Burberry (think trench and blanket style), Saint Laurent (tartan button-down) and Valentino (embroidered, shin-length) shows for a heads up on how to wear yours.
Shown here are some of my favourite caped crusaders.
And as a serious style maven, it’s no surprise that Sarah Jessica Parker got her hands on one of Burberry’s much sought after monogrammed capes.
The Crème de la Crème SHOPHere is another very versatile shop I want to share with you.
I’m a BIG advocate of one-stop shoppingIn this place you can not
only get something great to wear or carry….but you can pick up some pretty nice herbal teas, a gift for a mom-to-be,dishes for your dog, a lavatory mist and a little something to read.
Who can blame us for getting sidetracked in Hollywood, the SHOP?!
On the way to the Vancouver Home & Design show my sister took me to one of her favourite little boutiques that is sure to become one of mine. It is chock full with a wide variety of stuff we love. Here are some photos:

To compliment the new “Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs” exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art, which opened October 12th, here are some Fall/Winter 2014 looks that evoke some of the artist’s most famous works. The masterful combination of contrast, line and color that Matisse was able to create with scissors is no doubt something that fashion designers today strive for as they cut their garments.
Perhaps these images will inspire you so much that you’ll want to go at your clothes with a pair of scissors…“Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs,” is on view at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City October 12, 2014 through February 8,2015
Maybe a scarf or t-shirt but not the whole shebang for me. How about you?
