Style: Bodysuit Revival

Bodysuits are Back in a Big way.

Actress Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched) – taken in London, England 1964

Some of them even have no back.  But no matter how they come, there’s a lot to be said about a perfect bodysuit.  I used to wear them a lot.  And then I didn’t.  Mostly because they fell out of fashion with the lowrise pant phase and it was hard to find a good one except for Wolford, who always carried them.

They’re the ideal layering piece.  And as you can see, they’ve been around for a long while.

Wolford Berlin Stretch Jersey Bodysuit -$240

This bodysuit by Wolford means investing in the best. While a bit of a splurge, it’s the ultimate foundation piece when going for a seamless look.

Privacy Please Bara Bodysuit ($88) – you’ll get so much wear out of this simple bodysuit all year long.

Not only do they stay in place when tucked into high-waisted pants and skirts, but they’re also thin enough that they don’t add any unnecessary bulk. Under pretty blouses, the extra layer will keep you warm.  You can also leave a few extra buttons undone.

And you want one with No VPL.  That’s important.

BCBG – Floral Lace Bodysuit

BCBG’s Cato Floral Lace Bodysuit is a sleek lingerie-inspired bodysuit with intricate vintage details, and it shows the perfect flash of skin. The slimming striped mesh and plunging floral-lace neckline accented with scalloped trim accentuates your waist, while its chic long sleeves keep you cozy. Best of all, the bodysuit’s thong design is perfect for smooth layering (read: no unflattering VPL).

Madewell Lennon Striped Jersey Bodysuit -$45

Madewell: This bodysuit version stays sleek under high-waisted jeans and you don’t have to worry about your T-shirt looking sloppy. Bonus: It also won’t ever ride up!

Good thing I never got rid of a few of mine – what goes around comes around!

How about you?  Are you a fan or not?

Holiday Style: Glitter up

The holiday season always gives us good excuse to wear more bling.

No holiday
No festive attire is complete without a bold lip

Nothing like an on trend sparkly neckpiece to perk up your spirits and your LBD or moto jacket.

The necklace I received in my surprise Winter Box of Style is the perfect accessory to pull together a head-turning outfit.  So even though we love Cartier there are other magnificent choices out there for the season.  Here a model shows us how to perk up our outfits with a little bling to take us from day to night.

Style: STIRR it UP

What goes around comes around…

 Totême
Totême

Were you lucky enough to remember wearing STIRRUP PANTS in the 80’s?  I do.  I wore mine a lot, usually with a long cardigan over top.

No, this is not me. It's SJP and you know if she's wearing them they're definitely in style.
No, this is not me (as if). It’s SJP and you know if she’s wearing them they’re most definitely in style.

The Mellau Tights from Totême (New York) look pretty sophisticated.  Wear them with heels and an oversized shirt or pair them with flats and your favorite knit.  I might be ready to embrace this trend once more, especially when I see these women wearing them.  I was so over the stirrup, but what’s nice is that stirrup pants or tights never ride up.  At the same time I think this trend is catching on slowly and I’m not so sure how long it will last.  Still…

Pretty in Pink Rihanna caused quite a stir on Good  Morning America.

Of course she can get away with wearing anything.

style – I enjoy a good duster now & then

The Duster Coatduster1 - CopyA worn-out old duster.  In the old days of the Wild West the coat protected your clothing from trail dust, but not much else. This type of coat was usually worn by deputy lawmen and a popular choice for bounty hunters.  While it is called the Duster Coat, a true duster would be open in the back, allowing one’s legs to be protected while on horseback.

But this ain’t that!

A great transition piece for spring!  And Spring is just about here.  The open silhouette and sweater-like composition keep your look casually chic and—more importantly— comfortable.  People compare it to the trenchcoat but it’s not exactly because trenches have belts and way more buttons and the fabric is different.

I prefer no collar and a hidden button or two but the styles can vary a bit. It’s so easy to wear because you just throw it over whatever you have on from jeans to a dress and it pulls everything together.  duster5duster4

If you need more warmth just wrap a large scarf or shawl and you’re ready to go.  A neutral shade will keep you from getting tired of it although a bold color is nice too.

*Bazaar magazine refers to the coat Kimye is wearing as a Duster but only in the fact that it falls a few inches above the ground.  It looks like a regular camel coat to me but she does look especially chic wearing an all black ensemble (especially the turtleneck) underneath.  And it’s a little more cover than her skin tight latex dresses.

How about you – do you like them?

beauty: the luxury sleep mask

beauty and sleep go hand in hand20150130_171047       A good night sleep leaves us feeling refreshed = feeling good = looking good.  But we can’t get that if there’s too much light hitting our pillow.  If the room isn’t dark enough the best thing is to put on a face mask.  Make sure the elastic on the mask is not too tight so you don’t wake up with an outline around your face (= not attractive). My favourite masks are usually made of silk but we came across these mod designs in Palm Springs that manage to keep the light out but don’t press against your eyes and nose.   Which means you can sleep in full mascara (not usually a good idea) and not wake up looking like a raccoon.  SOLD!20150130_171152

Style – WHITEout!

Who loves wearing all white, all the time?  webster1

Okay, I’m talking mainly on vacation here but it’s great that white or versions of white (like off-white, winter white, antique white, ivory, & cream) are being worn more in winter now.webster5

In a perfect world I would be wearing white (and its various counterparts) with colourful accents like jewelry, scarves and shoes with wild abandon & no need to carry a clorax bleach pen (not unlike tide-to-go but for whites only) because nothing would get in the way of spoiling my whites.  Not chocolate, not coffee, not red wine nor spices like saffron and tumeric.  It would just always remain unstained and looking pure.  In other words, perfect right?webster2So, it was super exciting to find out (from another blog I follow so you see – what goes around, comes around) that The Webster, Miami and Bon Marché, Paris were collaborating on an all-white collection. There are more than 50 designers involved in the partnership across fashion, beauty, and home, including Chanel, Dior, Chloe… and the list goes on and on. The best part is also the worst part – all-white designs will only be available from The Webster and Bon Marché – but only until February 21, 2015.  Yes, it will feel extra special because of this but if you don’t live in either locale you better hurry up and book your ticket.  Not much time left.webster3

Okay, I’m ready to book my flight to Miami or Paris.  Who’s with me?

Beauty – stick it to me!

diorliner1 - CopyEyeliner challenged?

Frustrated because you can’t draw the wing-tip liner the models dramatically wore on the Dior Spring 2015 cateyewalk? Really!

If you’ve ever been so inclined to stick a pair of Flash Tattoos to your lids, Dior has you covered.  And it really isn’t as strange as it seems because women wear false eyelashes…so why not false liner?

After giving us a sneak preview of the metallic eye look showcased at their fall 2014 couture show, the label just launched stick-on versions of the look for everyday wear—if a daring high-shine finish is your every day look, that is.

Surprisingly, applying Dior’s adhesive liner patches are even easier than putting on a Flash Tattoo—simply peel the strip off of the set, and stick directly to your lid. Each patch can be re-adjusted (and re-worn!) with ease, thanks to the included skin-safe adhesive, and the kits include four strips total: Two in the runway-inspired chrome hue, and two inky black strikes, for the days you’re not wanting to fuss over a bottle of liquid liner.

Too much falseness!  I personally don’t like the idea of sticking falsies to my face even though it looks glamorous. For the runway it’s one thing but for real life it’s another.  Because at the end of the day you have to strip off your makeup and face yourself in the mirror.  Off with the liner, off with the lashes, etc.  It would look so less glam.

Hmmm…however I would be so inclined to try this when Dior asks me to walk the runway!

Burberry
Burberry

We can all use a good cover up.cape11

There’s something chic about wearing a cape.  At this time of year it’s not a constant but for in between the wet and very cold weather for those “off days” you can certainly pull it off (or on).  cape1
I think it’s a must in a woman’s wardrobe.cape5
On the Autumn/Winter 2014 catwalk scene capes were coveted in a big way – check the Burberry (think trench and blanket style), Saint Laurent (tartan button-down) and Valentino (embroidered, shin-length) shows for a heads up on how to wear yours.cape3

Shown here are some of my favourite caped crusaders.cape6

And as a serious style maven, it’s no surprise that Sarah Jessica Parker got her hands on one of Burberry’s much sought after monogrammed capes. cape8cape4rl
