“Fashions fade, style is eternal.” – Yves Saint Laurent. YSL was a wise man.
Trends come and go and come back again, many times to haunt us. Luckily, now more than ever, we have so many choices at our fingertips. The fashion gods can dictate and we can agree to either follow them, ignore them, or rebel against them entirely. Today there are no set rules! Except of course you should strive to not look like a complete & utter slob. We can be guided into a current “hot” style moment but if you love something then wear it regardless if it’s a trend fresh off the runway or not.

Trends will always be there, always influence and always evolve – that’s the great thing about fashion. Real style is about how you adapt current trends into your existing wardrobe. It’s fun to play. Let’s get started!

Where Dolce & Gabbana got their INSPIRATION for Runway Fall Winter 2014-15:
Majolica pottery is the most iconic way of decorating pottery in the Mediterranean. Originally a glaze which was imported by the Moors in the early Middle Ages, since then it has become an art of Southern Italy, in particular Sicily.
Majolica is one of the first exports of luxury items made in Italy, with these intricately glazed ceramics taking pride of place at courts of all of Europe in the Renaissance. It is said Queen Elizabeth I was a huge fan of the glazing and ordered many samples to be made for her in Italy during her reign.
Majolica has continued to attract art lovers, and today fashion lovers since its inception, and remains a thriving art in Sicily. The coloured tiles, pots and vases decorate homes, and even roads in the picturesque town of Sicily.

Shopping after hours –the way it “should” be…at least in my dreams.
In my DREAM I picture myself getting dropped off in front of the CHANEL Rue Cambon headquarters in Paris when it is closed for business to everyone else. A dutiful sales assistant anxiously awaits me, then escorts me upstairs so that top models can one by one parade around and model the Private Viewing Pre-Fall cowboy-inspired Collection for my eyes only.
In the short video (link below) by Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld I am played by *Lady Amanda Harlech (Lagerfeld’s real-life muse and right-hand woman), who undoubtedly has a fair few Chanel wares of her own. I think she does an amazing job. This gives an insight into the exclusive world of one of the brand’s VICs (very important customers). Top American model Jamie Bochert plays the sales assistant.
The Cowboy-inspired collection, which is rich in waistcoats, bow-tie blouses and gold tweeds, was first shown in Dallas last year and the range is dropping into Chanel stores throughout the current month. Please click on link below to get a glimpse: (NOTE: the video might start somewhere in the middle so just scroll right back to the beginning). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5qrQoea-2U#t=194
*Disclaimer – It’s really not supposed to be “me” – remember, it’s just my dream! I can be whoever I want in it. Oh, did you think it really was me???
is where the girls go barefoot and their hearts are just as free as their toesFeminine, flattering, and a far more conservative way to rock animal prints by the pool, this leopard one piece is the epitome of a necessary summer investment. For added va-va-voom appeal, don’t forget your red lipstick.
We can’t wait to soak up the sun in our swimsuits and bikinis either at the beach or poolside, but there are times in these settings when we probably want to partially cover up our bod and suit. Times like when we’re walking to and from the car, visiting the restroom, grabbing a bite to eat, strolling along the beach, when it feels a little breezy, or when we’ve just had enough of exposing lots of skin.
Swimsuit coverups are all about looking chic on the sand, whether you opt for beach cover up dresses, a cover up tunic, shorts or a sarong. And if you happen to be in a seaside town, a fashionable womens beach cover up is a must for pre-beach brunches and post-beach cocktails. Depending on the kind of day and my mood, these are several that I like.
I really love the little white crocheted shirts and dresses.
Another one I think is just great is the Saress. I have two – one short and one long that I pack in my travel bag.
I would love to step off a plane (preferably private) in a dress like this.
These are just a few of my summer fashion favorites. I prefer a free flowing and simple but still stylish look for the next few months.

Two young designers pay homage to the surrealist with a new collaboration at “Opening Ceremony”. Opening Ceremony is one of the fashion world’s holy grails – a cult destination shop on a par with 10 Corso Como in Milan, Colette in Paris and Dover Street Market in London, with branches in LA and Tokyo.
Humberto Leon and Carol Lim had their heads in the clouds for their new collaboration with the Magritte Foundation. The duo’s favorite paintings by the surrealist adorn clothing of their own design, as well as shoes by Vans, Birkenstock, and Manolo Blanik.
“Opening Ceremony is featuring all things Belgium this year, so it was the perfect moment to celebrate the world of René Magritte,” say the designers. “We’re lifelong fans.”

Opening Ceremony was founded in 2002 by two friends from UC Berkeley, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, as a place to share their passions for travel, art, and fashion. Inspired by a trip to Hong Kong, the two decided to leave their jobs in corporate fashion to realize their unique dream. What began as a single store on a quiet street in downtown New York is now a global community with outposts in New York, London, and Los Angeles, a department store in Tokyo, a wholesale showroom, an in-house clothing line, a blog, an e-commerce site, a TV channel, and an annual magazine.
Nothing quite finishes a look like a great pair of sunglasses.
Not to mention that they help to protect your eyes from the SUN

Do you have a favourite?
I can’t seem to get away from tortoiseshell– it’s still my all time favourite.
Victorians never swam – they went into the water, covered head-to-toe, and called it “bathing.”
Hence the term “bathing beauties” Here are some: This summer the hottest look on the beach will be vintage, so girls….get ready to embrace Retro pin-up style! I’ve found some fine examples from years past. So it’s not a perfect world and we’re not built like Marilyn or look like Farrah (remember the poster every boy had?) but these are flattering and let’s face it, more figure forgiving. Of course, all these women had gorgeous hourglass figures, but the brilliant part about a vintage-style swimsuit is that you don’t have to.
Marisa Tomei
These styles that cover more flesh have been seen on everyone from Megan Fox and Taylor Swift to Lindsay Lohan, Meg Ryan, and Marisa Tomei (if you need this kind of assurance). Breath a sign of relief that you don’t have to suck in your gut now. The hottest looks right now come right out of the old Hollywood glamour of the ‘40s and ’50s, when pin-ups really took off. Some history:
Lindsay Lohan
In the year 2000 a platinum-haired R&B singer named Sisqó proclaimed his obsession with thong underwear, and suddenly, it got much more difficult to find bikini bottoms that actually covered the bottom. Swimwear, particularly for women, had shrunk to the smallest possible piece of fabric that retailers could justify selling as clothing. “Let it all Hang Out” bikinis were seen everywhere but not all of us look our best by letting it all hang out if you know what I mean. Remember every year around March, magazines began to scream about getting “bikini ready” for the summer. Would it ever end? Who would save us?
Believe it or not: One of the girls from Sex and the City – but the least suspecting of the bunch – Miranda (I would have guessed Charlotte). In 2008, Cynthia Nixon’s “Sex And The City” character appeared on the big screen in a stunning, red ruched one-piece swimsuit, with a halter strap and a sweetheart neckline, that hugged her curves and covered her bum. Women rushed to the stores to snatch up the Mio swimsuit designed by Norma Kamali (who, by the way still designs killer swimsuits).
This is probably the first time in 100
years that the trend has reversed from showing more skin. Interesting, right? Enjoy it! There are lotsa rappers out there so ya neva know when the trend will revert back.
Looks good on plus-sized women – a few of the plusses!
