It’s not unusual for me to walk into Sephora and see products that have my name written all over it…meaning that I recognize something that I think would be perfect for me. But this time I really did see something with my name written on it which of course garnered my attention. On closer observation I realized it was also my colour and the caricature of the person on the packaging ~~looked just like me~~ was wearing something I like and also sell. Co-incidence? I think not!

What it is:
Besides a good marketing tool, it’s a bestselling sheer, shimmering lip gloss with a tingling, plumping effect.

What it does:
A sheer, high-shine lip polish. It creates the look of fuller, more voluptuous lips with a refreshing tingling sensation and gentle plumping effect. Vitamins A and E help keep lips soft and protected.

What else you need to know:
Dolly is a cult favorite, but if you love pinks, go with Katie and Sugar. For a plum obsession, go with Brandi or Gabby. Orange-lovers will gravitate toward Amber and Debbie. Add a splash of sparkle with Clair, Starr, and April. Leave it to them to choose names like Sugar, Brandi & Starr….~~I’m sure porn stars wear lipgloss too~~

Five Essentials

It’s dangerous at the best of times walking into any Sephora.

Sometimes I manage to bypass many of the temptations & go for only exactly what I came in to buy. This is done with great difficulty because it means not looking at all the shelves that pull you in with such appealing product displays. You have to remain strong & focused.

This time of year we get an extra discount for being a ‘VIP insider’ (which I’m sure most of us that shop there become on the very first visit) and can save $15 on a minimum purchase of $50 (not a difficulty). So we walk in with our VIP cards that give us that little extra bonus to choose a small gift whenever we spend a minimum of $100 (not a difficulty). If you spend $500 (not a difficulty) even better – more choices. Since we always need something from there, any extra savings is a bonus.

I’m sure I needed something – just can’t remember what. Maybe extra bronzer & a nice blush. For sure I needed the inexpensive nail polish remover that you dip your fingers into & almost instantly dissolves all polish. Done! Then in the lineup for the till I spotted an Yves Saint Laurent lipstick in a most beautiful color (#12) in one of the discount bins – although I found out that it was put there by mistake so it was really regular price. I believe it found me so into my bag it goes. Then on my way home I realized the discount coupon was still in my purse – can’t believe it. So back I go thinking I’ll just get a rebate for the difference….until I noticed the YSL touché éclat (magic wand that every makeup artist swears by) in the bin for exactly the price of $50 – Done!

What a great deal because it really only cost me $35. I’m such a smart shopper!

For a beautifully silky & relaxing body lotion this is my all time FAVORITE: DREAM SILK COMFORT CREAM from earththerapeutics.com

Especially for at night before bed as it slips on like a cozy pair of silk pajamas. Made with infusions of valerian root and lavender which calms, comforts, soothes and relaxes for a deep restful sleep.

I first encountered this lotion in a yoga class when the instructor came around rubbing it into each and everyone’s temples during Shavasana. I was immediately hooked – sometimes it only takes one try.

P.R. – I like to put Cake in my Hair

Product Review – Cake dry shampoo.

I love cake in all its forms – flourless, vegan, fully loaded, red velvet & with lots of icing. Now I can put cake it in my hair.

Tell me you haven’t tried dry shampoo! Maybe you haven’t found the right one yet. Who washes their hair every single day anymore? We’re constantly on the go, washing daily will dry out your hair and styling all the time is a pain. Enter dry shampoo – not like the old days.

I think it’s a must unless of course you break out a sweat like crazy. For non wash days I just sprinkle a little cake satin sugar glistening dry shampoo on my roots, work through a little with my fingers & let sit a few minutes before brushing out. It doesn’t really clean your hair but it will take away the greasy look for emergencies or just days when you want to give your hair a rest. It also smells nice – a bit like icing sugar. The packaging is very so-so but the product works. Available at Sephora for $20.00

Can you believe they have a dry bar at Sephora? I’ve been wanting to try “Oscar Blandi” but the girls at S convinced me that cake works better for less $ – so far so good. This was their TOP pick (at least for now).

If you’re looking for something a little less pricey then try the volumizing spray from John Frieda which works fine for about $7.00.

IN the Beauty Cabinet – Product Review – working 24/7

Focus on URBAN DECAY

With NEW glide-on 24/7 Eye Pencils that come in 40 highly saturated shades. I bought one recently and just got another for 100 points at Sephora – “smoke” a nice deep grey color, not so harsh as black. A super Sephora selection.

What I love is that they stay creamy for blending and dry to a waterproof finish that won’t budge. And as they say in the packaging “the shade range is insane!” Crazy-vivid brights, shimmering metalics or wear-anywhere neutrals. Something for everyone. Choose from every texture imaginable, from micro-sparkle to matte. You can get addicted to the names alone – perversion, smog, bourbon, hustle, corrupt, desperation, freak, psychedelic sister, etc.

Another Urban Decay Staple is the 24/7 concealer pencil. Don’t you just love makeup pencils?

The creamy formula dries matte and stays put (but only on dry skin and not 100% of the time). It’s still nice. Because it’s a pencil, it’s easy to apply with precision.

With so many choices available it’s nice to sample different products and not stay always with the same brand. For someone who sells beautiful mineral makeup and doesn’t even wear much makeup to begin with I sure have a hefty stockpile. That’s what women do. How about you?

Personal Post-it – Product Review

Sephora Instant Nail Polish Remover – a Wonderful Product and makes life easier.I don’t know about you but I’m always taking off nail polish because it consistently chips. Have you ever spilled nail polish remover in your bathroom? It’s not a good thing. Worse is spilling a bottle of bright red nail polish on your white ceramic sink but that’s another story. A friend once brought me back from Japan a very similar product that I remember thinking was brilliant. Then once it was finished I forgot all about it – until Sephora came out with this one. Easy to use because you just dip each nail one by one into the jar and presto – nail polish dissolves in seconds. Hard to get off glitter polish too although you might have to do it twice or leave it for a few seconds longer. Great for travelling, lasts a long time (surprisingly I’ve had mine for a few months) and it’s inexpensive. Thanks Sephora!
