Hair Story

All Prose.  No Cons.

I couldn’t have predicted it any better or worseThe timing that is…and the fact that my hair would lose some of it’s natural lustre and manageability.

Who would have thought that I could have hair products customized specifically for me, with my name on the bottle? just in case anyone who comes over makes the mistake of using them. Never mind the length and the roots.  That’s another story.

Early in March, at the very beginning of learning about Coronavirus, I received an offer I could not refuse.  It came from a company I hadn’t heard about before.  But it got my attention.  Because…well..custom made and all…

As far as beauty products are concerned, hair products were always at the very bottom of my list. Not sure why that was but I would use pretty much anything. It was never a priority like skincare and makeup was. But now that’s all changed.  I’ve become a prose convert.

Created in Paris.  (Gotta trust the French when it come to these things).  Bottled in Brooklyn.

I was intrigued.  The people at Prose got my attention with not so little details such as…clean, cruelty free ingredients, refillable bottles, thought to packaging, guidelines for how to use each product and finally; scent. The customization process even includes the aroma profile you can choose, which ranges from floral to citrus to woodsy. My oil has an amazing almond scent. You are one in a million.  So is your hair.

Let me tell you.  You have to first fill out an application longer than one for a job interview from what I can remember about job interviews and answer all kinds of questions regarding the quality of your overall hair condition and health in general.

Questions like how much hair regularly falls out and how much of your scalp is shown when hair is parted down the middle? This apparently tells you about your hair density. Even diet. Yes! All the answers help to formulate each product exclusively to your needs.

The whole Prose line is customized to your specific hair.

Hairs to You!

Beach Hair Beauty

sephora9The sun’ll come out

Tomorrow

Bet your bottom dollar

That tomorrow

There’ll be sun!

And if not, then it will come out soon enough

Then we’ll head to the beach and get a head of beach bombshell hair

Or something like that

Because it’s freeing not to think about hair too much in the summer or try to create a casually toussled look like we’ve been to the beach, even if we haven’t.

For effortlessly chic, sexy undone hair that shouts “just got out of the ocean and my hair dried perfectly.”sephora8

And the best way to do that is with:

sephora7A product that will help do it for us.  A product such as Quai Wave Spray. The one that all the women in the biz who matter use, so I’m told.  Hey; I matter dammit!

So I am being sent some my way any day now.  Because I love the way my hair dries naturally after  having spent time in salt water.  It’s the best!

Quai uses rice protein instead of salt in their spray. They say that the rice protein protects hair fibers from the inside against oxidative damage due to solar radiation and hair keratin from degradation.

I think it may work much better than the empty plastic spray bottle I filled up with ocean water thinking I could create my own natural hair product.  It was ingenious by the way, just not perfect. It was too drying.

This feather light spray is formulated to give natural wave and body without any dryness or crunch.

What else you need to know:
Shake it up and spritz it on damp or dry hair  from root to tip to activate natural waves, enhance texture, boost body, and give hair memory. Or, just mist the roots for extra volume. This product is scented with Ouai No. 2 Fragrance, containing notes of Italian lemon, amber, and white musk. No Parabens, No Animal Testing.

When I’m stuck with a day that’s grey and lonely I just stick up my chin and grin and say, the sun will come out eventually tomorrow.  Sure I do! Then I know my hair will be better.

Beauty biz – because we’re worth it!

Once in a while an amazing hair product grabs my attention.

So far I find this hair product from L’Oréal Paris Absolue-tly amazing .  It could be the best and easiest hair coloring kit ever invented.  It met all the requirements. Easy to apply, non-messy (a real plus) with little to no odor. But the BEST THING about it – drumroll…..it’s reusable!  The formulas are preserved in airtight tubes so you can stash the device away and re-use it as needed.

Hair products for the most part seem to escape my interest so I concentrate on reviewing makeup and skincare products.  It’s not that I don’t like them or need them but my routine is relatively unfussy and I don’t like to use much product – my hair is fine so too much product will weigh it down. Whenever I ‘m at my hairdresser she ends up putting mousse, then a color enhancer, then a little Moroccan oil  (I love that oil) and then ruins it all by using hairspray.  I keep saying “no” (I do not like hairspray overload) but she does it anyway.  It looks great for one day and then it will take some effort on my part to get it to looking like I just left the hairdresser.  And I hate to put a lot of effort into my hair.  Maybe I should care more but I don’t want to spend a lot of time fussing. I haven’t been to a hairdresser to color or highlight my hair in a long time preferring to do it at home.  I found a few easy root touch up kits and even a highlighting one. The drawbacks are that they tend to get messy (I have a white sink & tub) and there’s always waste.

This new hair dye from L’Oréal has been selling in Europe for quite some time so we’re really lucky the company finally decided to send it this way.

Here is what the company says:

L’Oréal  Preference Mousse Absolue is the first automatic and re-usable hair color that’s, dare we say, quite the revolutionary product. After 10 years in the making, L’Oreal Paris has devised a canister with dual chambers that seamlessly combines the color dyes and color developer together at the push of a button.

See, I told you!   Have you tried it?

P.R. – I like to put Cake in my Hair

Product Review –  Cake dry shampoo.

I love cake in all its forms – flourless, vegan, fully loaded, red velvet & with lots of icing.  Now I can put cake it in my hair.Cake

Tell me you haven’t tried dry shampoo!  Maybe you haven’t found the right one yet.  Who washes their hair every single day anymore?  We’re constantly on the go, washing daily will dry out your hair and styling all the time is a pain.  Enter dry shampoo – not like the old days.

I think it’s a must unless of course you break out a sweat like crazy.  For non wash days I just sprinkle a little cake satin sugar glistening dry shampoo on my roots, work through a little with my fingers & let sit a few minutes before brushing out.  It doesn’t really clean your hair but it will take away the greasy look for emergencies or just days when you want to give your hair a rest.  It also smells nice – a bit like icing sugar.  The packaging is very so-so but the product works.  Available at Sephora for $20.00

Can you believe they have a dry bar at Sephora? I’ve been wanting to try “Oscar Blandi” but the girls at S convinced me that cake works  better for less $ – so far so good. This was their TOP pick (at least for now).

volumeIf you’re looking for something a little less pricey then try the volumizing spray from John Frieda which works fine for about $7.00.

Have you tried these?
