This Alberta Ferretti limited edition capsule collection is related to those, only in a high-fashion (with a price to match), we want to show you kind of way.
The pre-fall 2017 launch is available for purchase fresh off the runway (she’s the most recent designer to join the see-now-buy-now movement).
Happily named “Rainbow Week,” the collection comprises seven luxe knits in a variety of punchy, mood-boosting hues, each emblazoned with a different day of the week—a reminder to live every day with optimism. Style them with your favorite high-waist, straight-leg jeans for the perfect off-duty look or dress them up with a sexy sheer lace skirt.
If you don’t want to amuse them, confuse them. Wear the wrong day!
It’s all about the simple things; sunshine and resort style living. A mimosa here and everywhere there. A nice pool. A mimosa by the pool.
Throw Pillow from Shag
A place to escape to when the weather starts to turn for the worst. A playground for those who like to golf, hike or swim. Or just take it easy or go listen to live music. There’s a lot of happy people here. A lot of folks from Vancouver and other parts of Canada. Happy hour is a biggie and there’s plenty of good dining everywhere.
The Tuna Tower at Lulu’s California Bistro is a favouriteLove Bill’s Pizza. The caesar salad is the best.
There’s the Palm Springs International Film Festival which is just ending and attracts Hollywood’s biggest stars to flog their films or just show up and party.
There’s Modernism Week in February. An annual signature event and celebration of midcentury modern design, architecture, art, fashion and culture. With more than 250 events including the Modernism Show & Sale, Signature Home Tours, films, lectures, Premier Double Decker Architectural Bus Tours, nightly parties and live music, walking and bike tours, tours of Sunnylands (to some extent regarded as the “Camp David of the West”), classic cars, modern garden tours, a vintage travel trailer exhibition, and more…like Martinis on the mountain.
Then there’s Coachella (my sister is excited about going for the first time), the annual Valley Music & Arts Festival. As of this spring Beyoncéwill make history yet again as she will be the first woman of color to headline Coachella. EVER. She is also the first woman in ten years to headline the festival (the last woman to headline was Bjork in 2007).
There was “Oldchella” which was the fitting nickname for the festival’s official title “Desert Trip.” It appears the nickname came about because headliners such as Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Roger Waters, The Rolling Stones and The Who average about 72 years in age. But can these guys still rock or what? Nobody seems sure how annual this festival might be. There is talk of it dying off.

But you can count on “Opera in the Park” a premier cultural event in April held at Sunrise Park. The concert of arias draws thousands of people from all over Southern California (& beyond) in a celebration of great opera music with a professional orchestra. You can take a picnic lunch – how great is that?
There’s the usual art markets, *antique markets, **vintage markets & the Thursday night street fair. Free street parking is a bonus. There’s even a free bus or “buzz” Thursday through Sunday that’s also dog friendly as is the rest of P.S.
There’s other places of interest you can drive or bus to within a few hours driving distance like: Los Angeles & San Diego if you miss the ocean or more traffic. A little longer than that and you can find yourself in Las Vegas or Arizona. So there’s plenty of variety and no excuse to be bored.

So I went ahead and bought myself an early birthday gift. A little pied-à-terre right smack in the middle of exactly where I want to be. A perfect location. Something so unexpected and unplanned…yet ideal. As I’m writing this I’m spending my first night in the new place after having rented in the area for two weeks prior to this with a short hotel stay prior to that. I’ve been coming here for several years and what’s funny is that this time the trip was going to be a short one. I just wanted to take in the film festival and be back before the end of January. There were reasons why it had to be cut shorter than usual….however you never know what life will throw your way. Now I’ll stay a bit longer than planned. And have a set place to come back to.
In another sense…I fully expected this to happen! My horoscope said that it’s my year to charge ahead, make bold changes for progress & success. The Sun-Pluto conjunction in January empowers and emboldens my sign all year long.

2016 was such a downer year for multiple reasons. We lost so many amazing people and of course the election craziness. Here’s to new growth and positive change. Not just for me, but for everyone. We have to take our sunshine where we can get it. And orange juice doesn’t quite cut it.
*an antique is “a work of art, piece of furniture, or decorative object made at least 100 years ago.
**The term “vintage,” when used in a way similar to the term “antique,” refers to items that are over 50 years old, but less than 100.

Another French Film and a partial musical at that, which is very unFrench.
From “New Voices/New Visions” category at PSIFF
But I think there’s no need to explain the only main reason why I chose this film. It takes place in a luxury shoe factory! I mean if I were to work in a factory…..It’s fun and it’s whimsical but La La Land it is not.
It centers on Julie (played by Pauline Etienne “The Tokyo Fiancée”), a young woman who is trying hard to make ends meet and ends up taking a trial position in an upscale shoe factory where she works packaging up shoes in the shipping department. After a short period of time it appears the business will be either substantially downsized, sold or moved offshore for cheaper costs. Julie’s co-workers will stop at nothing to keep their positions.
Julie joins in a song and dance number with the group of female co-workers responsible for making the shoes in a protest to the proposed change. They end up raiding the shoe archives to discover a well-designed retro model in REDwhich they decide to revive to save the renowned brand and keep it from going to China. In doing so they stir up intrigue and interest.
Ahhh, you’ve got to love the French. This is my third French film in a row and I think mostly I’m drawn to these films because one of my best friends growing up in Montreal was very French from France. She was daring, beautiful, lots of fun and had an unbelievably bad temper if she didn’t get her way. I can sympathize.
Some newer red shoes I happen to like And if you go boating (or want to look like you go boating) these from Gucci are pretty nice.Vive la France!
If you are truly into Style you will have at one point picked up a copy of Italian Vogue. Either in Italy or elsewhere.
Then you should know that Franca Sozzani, the Editor in Chief of Italian Vogue, has died at 66. Sadly she now joins musician George Michael, along with witty author/actor/ex-princess Carrie Fisher (what they all have in common is that they pushed the boundaries). Yves Saint Laurent said “fashion fades, style is eternal” so the heavens now are alive with some serious style spirits.
Photo of Franca: Francesco Carrozzini
Franca, an ageless 66, was born in Mantua. Her father, a classic Italian patriarch, was an industrial engineer who did not approve his daughter’s early ambitions to study physics. She studied literature and philosophy at university in Milan instead, and married soon after, although she knew, as she later admitted, that the marriage was doomed before she walked into the church. (Franca would later confess that romantic relationships were the one weak link in her formidable arsenal of triumphs.) The couple divorced three months later, and the free-spirited Franca went to India to find herself—“I thought it was time to do something good with my life.” Time spent in Swinging London further nurtured her creative spirit.
When she returned from her odyssey, she stumbled into a job at Vogue Bambini(as “assistant to the assistant to the assistant,” as she playfully remembered). By 1980, she landed the editorship of Lei, aimed at young women, with Per Lui, its male counterpart, following in 1982. She transformed both these titles into showcases for the most dynamic trends in international fashion and lifestyle image-making. When Oliviero Toscani, her key photographer, moved on from her magazines, she began nurturing a dazzling talent roster of emerging photographers including Mario Testino, Paolo Roversi, Herb Ritts, Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber, and Steven Meisel, all of whom were attracted by the unprecedented editorial freedom that she gave them, and her passion for photography.
“Why would anyone buy Italian Vogue?” she once queried, “They wouldn’t—only Italians read Italian.” She knew that she needed to communicate instead through powerful imagery, and by showcasing her photographers’ work in this way, she earned their unswerving loyalty and their willingness to work with her magazines’ negligible budgets. “When I sent all these photos to you, I would write on the package ‘personal,’ ” Weber wrote to her, “I now realize that I took them for you because you would be the only one who would understand.”
At the same time, Franca became an indispensable part of the Italian fashion scene, a shrewd power broker with an unequaled reach to its designers and the manufacturers and industrialists who keep the industry’s wheels turning.
In 1988, she was appointed Editor in Chief of Italian Vogue—the same month that Anna Wintour was made the Editor in Chief at American Vogue. (By 1994, she was made Editor in Chief of Italian Condé Nast, enjoying great support from an at times long-suffering Jonathan Newhouse, the chairman of Condé Nast International.) Franca immediately shook up the formulaic title with dynamic covers and content, creating a magazine that, in her words, would be “extravagant, experimental, innovative.”
Franca’s ethereal, otherworldly beauty, with her limpid blue eyes and tumble of pale blonde Pre-Raphaelite waves, belied her indomitable personality. “I listen,” she said, “but I must go my own way.”
A maverick spirit, she turned her Vogue into a magazine that not only celebrated the power of the image, but also used fashion stories as a platform to discuss broader issues, and the obsessions of the fashionable world. Franca had a passion for, and a deep knowledge of, fashion and its history, but an ability to keep an amused distance from its modern day excesses.
She was fearless in her willingness to tackle provocative and controversial social and cultural issues through the medium of fashion shoots. (“Fashion isn’t really about clothes,” she said, “it’s about life.”)
A remarkable woman whose talent was matched by her fierce loyalty and her passion for life.

The holiday season always gives us good excuse to wear more bling.
No festive attire is complete without a bold lip
Nothing like an on trend sparkly neckpiece to perk up your spirits and your LBD or moto jacket.
The necklace I received in my surprise Winter Box of Style is the perfect accessory to pull together a head-turning outfit. So even though we love Cartier there are other magnificent choices out there for the season. Here a model shows us how to perk up our outfits with a little bling to take us from day to night.

As told by an editor at purewow.com – an American digital media company that elevates the everyday from the everyday…. if you know what I mean.
You know when you’re in a particularly fabulous store and you just kinda moan, “Ugh, I want to live here”?
Well, the new Cartier Fifth Avenue Mansion in the heart of Manhattan garners that same response. Although it’s not new. And it was actually home to a big-name financier back in the 1910s, until he sold it to the Cartier family in exchange for $100 and a double strand of 128 natural pearls (trust us, they were some good pearls). A century later the landmark still stands, and now with a major Manhattan-sized facelift. (Two and a half years, four times the size.) Here’s what made us go weak in the knees during a private tour of the place—or should we say palace?
A ROOM THAT PAYS HOMAGE TO A SCREEN QUEEN
Vacationing in the South of France is pretty dreamy. Vacationing in the South of France while your husband adorns you with custom Cartier jewels is the stuff of legends. The Elizabeth Taylor Salon in the Cartier Fifth Avenue Mansion is filled with gems as big as the movie star herself. And when you’re done fawning over those creations, you can turn your attention to the triptych of still photographs grabbed from a home movie, shot in August 1957 while Taylor and her husband, film producer Mike Todd, were vacationing in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, France. It was there that Todd presented her with a Cartier ruby and diamond necklace—while she was in her bikini, mind you. (The photos on the wall feel like the most glamorous Instagram story, ever.)
AN IN-HOUSE PERFUMER TAKES RESIDENCE ON THE FOURTH FLOOR
A sensory experience unlike any other, the fourth floor is home to Cartier perfumer Mathilde Laurent’s 11 exclusive fragrances—each housed in a tiny red Cartier box. Simply take your pick, open the box and a video will begin to play, illustrating the scent. For what it’s worth, Number VII smells like a field of peonies.
THE OLD BALLROOM IS NOW HOME TO ALL THE DIAMONDS
All diamonds and engagement rings are located in this oval stunner named the Princess Grace Salon. And, quite honestly, the lighting might be the best in all of Manhattan.
AND, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE RING
Speaking of Princess Grace of Monaco, the original Cartier engagement ring (a flawless 10.48-carat emerald-cut jaw-dropper flanked by two baguettes) that she received from Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956 will be on exhibit from now until October 15. Sorry, no try-ons.
AND FINALLY, THE SECRET DOOR…
Last but certainly not least are all the little secrets dotting the Cartier Fifth Avenue Mansion’s six floors, such as a camouflaged door that connects this staircase to the private Jeanne Toussaint Salon, named after Cartier’s first artistic director. The mezzanine is strictly for VIPs only. Clients who are looking to commission one-of-a-kind, high-end pieces gain entry under the supervision of a Cartier employee.

But don’t forget… ENVY is one of the seven deadly sins!
Just received my Winter Box of Style. Just in time because this curated product assortment will take me (and others who purchased it) from day to night this holiday season and well into the new year.

I started sharing contents/info about the Spring box set and so this season completes my final round of box sets for the whole year. After all it is curated by stylist & editor-in-chief Rachel Zoe and her team.
This year, In a private bungalow at the storied Chateau Marmont, Rachel decided to host a glamorous dinner party specifically to celebrate her pride and joy of the season – the winter Box of Style.
Here are some of the highlights:

The latest concept in entertainment/club dining is at Rogers Arena. I was lucky to be a guest last Friday night for Stevie Nicks, the legendary Fairy Godmother of ROCK on her
24 KARAT GOLD TOUR stop in Vancouver.
I knew I was invited to the show but never expected the space to be so impressive. And it’s a really good thing I didn’t have dinner beforehand because they said there would be food but…they never mentioned there would be so much. The new large room suite is only one month old. It is a complete renovation, redesign and upgrade of the former “Centre Ice Grill” with premium service and all the fine touches exclusive membership has to offer. Such as:

Picture this – you’re sitting in the comfort of a wide-back chair with a plate of food and a glass of wine in front of you while watching and listening to the best entertainment to pass through Vancouver, B.C. It really doesn’t get much better!

The area has comfy leather sofas to lounge on, walled fireplaces, tables overlooking the arena and four chef attended stations offering an abundance of mouth-watering dishes. The club is open for monthly/yearly membership and included in the exclusive fee package is fresh & exquisite rotating menus. Wine & Liquor is extra.
Oh wait…as an added bonus to an otherwise perfect evening the Pretenders opened up for Stevie Nicks. I forgot about how many great songs they have. And Chrissie Hynde’s voice is a good as ever – love her voice!
Come again?Encore is the perfect name for the watering hole because once you come here you definitely want to repeat the experience. It’s the rock concert equivalent of flying First Class. Once you experience it you cannot don’t want to ever go back.
The thing about music is that it evokes so many memories and the thing about all the other stuff is:
Now I’m ruined for all other concerts.
Her ENCORE (following Rhiannon) is one of my favourite songs “LANDSLIDE“. And she, as beautiful as ever. (If you want to see a video clip please visit my Instagram feed @ https://www.instagram.com/girlwhowouldbeking/
American women wear underwear. French women wear lingerie.
French women seem inherently more confident in their bodies, able to embrace the sensuality of life and love. What’s their secret?
Lingerie
I may not be of French descent and I don’t know if growing up in Montreal had anything to do with it, but I have embraced beautiful lingerie for as long as I can remember. And that’s why I was so excited to discover a feminine unique brand native to South America which I brought back to sell in Canada for several years.
Yet, even though I tend to wear t-shirt bras, running bras and even yoga bras when need be, nothing shouts “I’m a sexy woman” more than when I put on a lacy, silky undergarment. We don’t even know if men really appreciate it but just the fact that we have something sensuous underneath our outerwear that makes us feel special is good enough.
Did you see the parade of young, sexy women with perfect bodies strutting the Runway for the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show the other night? It was the first time I’ve watched it and it was amazing! It was filmed in Paris with Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars as guests and the backdrop was pure fantasy and the girls were seamless in their not necessarily seamless undergarments. These chosen few are really top-notch in their category and the ones who exhibit more personality will surely go on to excel in the magic model kingdom. But it is not reality as we know it, and on a more somber note it’s probably why many young women become anorexic or bulimic in comparison. These girls work out non-stop just so you know. But moving right along….
A Toronto native by the name of Kathryn Kemp-Griffin is the author of a new book entitled “Paris Undressed.” She moved to Paris with her husband in the 90’s and now also runs lingerie-themed tours of Paris. She found that in North America comfort was an excuse for a lack of aesthetics.
She realized that after moving to Paris, that lingerie could be something more. The idea is lingerie should be about activating the senses, not fixing perceived flaws.
Paris Undressed goes behind the seams, combining cultural references, expertise, and practical advice to inspire every woman to reconsider her underwear drawer.
It’s good to know that North American women are already embracing this!
I’m not talking about the amount you paid for that gorgeous cashmere sweater.
What’s good enough for 007 is good enough for me. In this photo he’s going to kill some cashmere intruders.
I’m talking about the lifelong commitment of keeping your cashmere moth free, pill free and looking fresh for as long as possible. It’s a process that is time consuming but it’s worth it if you enjoy wearing this luxurious natural fabric. And who doesn’t?
Photo: Huffington PostA classic that can be dressed up or down
Last week when I put on one of my sweaters only to find several small holes and one fairly large hole I decided “no moths, no more!” I will never use moth balls because they smell horrible. My grandmother’s chest of drawers used to reek of them. Even though they do the trick – NO way! I roll my sweaters with pretty lavender sachets in a box containing cedar wood chips. After this I went through my sweaters one by one and found another three that have holes. So now I’m desperate. And through experience I know that if you’re lucky enough to find someone to mend them you might as well buy a new one because it’s expensive. So I called my friend Colleen because a) she has a lot of cashmere and b) I don’t have Martha Stewart’s phone number and this was the next best thing because c) she seems to know a lot about a lot and d) when she discovered that moths had eaten her favourite cashmere housecoat she called the moth exterminator people (she recommends Mat Neale from *Pest Solutions in Vancouver) who sprayed her whole house with a non-toxic substance that killed those little suckers dead. Apparently they also have pheromone moth traps.
I didn’t want to do that so on her advice I spent a good portion of Sunday (and yes, I’m aware that there are far more pressing issues in the world and this is not the worst problem that someone can have) but this is my style post so we can be decadent taking care of this problem.
First I shook the sweaters outside just in case there were invisible hangers-on. Then I turned them inside-out and put them in the dryer on HOTa few at a time for 20 minutes each round. As long as the item is dry it will not shrink. This will kill any possible larvae almost impossible to see. It sounds gross I know. Then after cooling I used a fuzz remover called “Gleener” on the ones which needed it and it worked like a charm. In Canada you can find it at Canadian Tire. Comes with three attachments for removal depending on the severity of the fuzz and the other end has a lint remover. My new best friend!
Then I neatly folded each one and stuffed them into individual large zip-lock freezer bags. Then…into the freezer they go for storage. At this point if you don’t have a large freezer you may want to consider removing any frozen items to make room for your sweaters. Or I recommend getting a second freezer for your sweaters. Or; don’t put stuff in the freezer at all…just your sweaters. Then of course your warm cosy sweater will have to warm up before you wear it – this is what we go through in the name of fashion comfort.
I wish there was an easier better way but I’m aware that the picky little buggers don’t like extreme weather conditions so doing it this way will eradicate the problem.
You know something else I noticed? They have an appetite for quality wool, silk and very fine cotton. NO; I’m not planning to refrigerate my whole closet!!
Not that everything in my closet is of the utmost finest but still….
What about leaving something out for bait? Something like a t- shirt in a pima cotton, silk, wool, cashmere blend that will attract and take their attention away from anything they want to invade next. Something that says “dinner is ready and it’s a smorgasbord of all your favourite food FABrics” and they can eat the whole goddamn thing for all I care as long as they stay away from all the rest.
Well it’s an idea. Do you have a better one?
I think Ryan Reynolds is wearing cashmere but really…does it even matter?Spotted at Coco’s closet in Vancouver, EQUIPMENT Shirley leopard-print silk and cashmere-blend sweater. LOVE!
One that will never go out of style!
