Oh, how I’d love to own a piece of clothing that Audrey Hepburn had worn.

If only I could afford to…if only I could fit into something – two major factors. Or maybe I could just frame the dress from Breakfast at Tiffanys!
For fans it will be possible to purchase something special with Christie’s upcoming sale of the Personal Collection of Audrey Hepburn. A sneak peek:

‘It is with great joy that we seek to share her spirit, through this sale, and its related previews’ — Luca Dotti and Sean Hepburn Ferrer, Audrey Hepburn’s sons.
Among this precious cache are many pieces from Hepburn’s personal wardrobe, including a cocktail dress from her friend and favorite fashion collaborator Hubert de Givenchy, a classic Burberry trench, and a rainbow-hued selection of ballet flats.
Photographs, Hepburn’s annotated scripts, and more will also be offered for sale in London on September 27; if the Internet breaks that day, you’ll know why. Decades after her passing, Hepburn’s popularity only continues to grow.
Hepburn’s style is sure to have drawn many to her. “People have always talked about her grace, [and wondered], What was the secret of her elegance? What was her system? What was her style?,” says her son Sean Ferrer who, with his 20-year-old daughter, is writing a fashion book, slated for 2018, that will tackle these questions, though he believes that some answers will emerge at the Christie’s preview, “when people see not just iconic pieces of clothing, but also more intimate things, things that she wore on her off time or at home.”

If the sale will offer fans a more complete picture of Hepburn, it sounds like it will free the family to move forward with their charitable efforts on their mother’s behalf. Things, Ferrer says, are static. “As far as moving into the future, I don’t think things will help us, therefore it’s only fair that those who would like to have a keepsake of her can do so.”
It would make for a fabulous keepsake from one of the most loved actresses of all time.

With its rich and buttery flavour, Sablefish is considered a delicacy by chefs across the country. This recipe takes barely no time to prepare, ready in minutes and then disappears almost instantly.
Sablefish has a high oil content which allows it to be cooked at high temperatures. It also makes this fish an ideal source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which many health experts suggest reduces the risk of heart disease. AND the taste is unbeatable.
You can alter this made up recipe depending on how many people you’re serving. This is for two:
In a small dish mix equal amounts (1 tsp. each) of sesame oil, low sodium soy sauce, fresh grated ginger & sake (the alcohol burns off when cooking but you can omit this). To the bowl add a little less amount of chili oil + yuzu hot sauce (a vinegar/citrus japanese sauce). Mix together. Pour over two equal size pieces of Sablefish and let sit in fridge for several hours.
When ready to *cook, pat the fish dry and bake in pyrex plate (350F) until done – about 10 minutes or until a fork inserted in the middle comes out easily. Top with sesame seeds (optional; I used “everything but the bagel” seasoning which also has sea salt, garlic + onion and gives fish an extra tasty crunch). This one is available at Trader Joe’s.
With the added sesame seeds. Sides: buttered acorn squash, steamed local asparagus + vegetable casserole.
*This time I did not bake the fish. I used my (almost untouched) George Foreman Grill on highest heat sprayed with a little coconut oil (and did not pat the fish too dry so it would not stick). Left for a couple minutes, it was seared perfectly on both sides and came out intact and it tasted amazing. Just in case you happen to have forgotten about the GFG, it can still work magic (and not just for grilled cheese sandwiches).
Sometimes we play with these things for a little while, put them away and then forget about them. Now I’m re-imagining useful ways to use my older cookware like the grill, the slow cooker and clay pot. It’s fun.

I thought I knew everything. Apparently this is a thing. You might have already heard about it. Golden Milk not only tastes good, it also comes with a long list of health benefits (look it up). My friend Margeaux swears by it and so she made it for us while we were visiting her resort-style home in the Kooteneys because she said it’s the best before-bedtime drink to help promote a peaceful deep sleep. She was right. I slept like a baby.
I’ve been using up the paste she made for us nightly and when I run out (soon) I’ll be making my own. Here’s the recipe (which of course, you can modify to suit your taste).
This lightly spiced drink (which is similar in flavor to chai) is packed with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, thanks to a dose of peppery turmeric. A touch of honey adds just the right amount of sweetness, while the ginger and black pepper add a little heat.
Margeaux starting to prepare the paste & the aroma is exotically enticingThe paste is thickening
INGREDIENTS
1 cup unsweetened non-dairy milk, preferably coconut milk beverage or almond milk
Ground cinnamon (for serving). Margeaux went one step further and gave us whole cinnamon sticks to use for swirling – a nice added touch.
Cardamon (optional)
PREPARATION
Whisk coconut milk, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, honey, coconut oil, peppercorns, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan; bring to a low boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors have melded, about 10 minutes and paste begins to thicken. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
To drink (per person): to one cup of non dairy beverage, add 1/4 tsp. of turmeric paste & 1 tsp. virgin coconut oil. Warm over medium heat before bedtime for best results. Do not overheat. Pour into a mug. Sprinkle with cinnamon or serve with cinnamon stick.
Do Ahead
Golden milk can be made 5 days ahead. Store in an airtight container and chill. Warm before serving.
Cooks’ Note
Using fresh turmeric adds a clean, bright flavor to this drink, but dried turmeric can be substituted when fresh is not available. Keep in mind that dried turmeric will settle to the bottom of the mug, so stir well before drinking.
Makes 2 cups
*I have used fresh turmeric (which resembles fresh ginger – bought at South China Seas Trading Company, Granville Island) but I have to tell you that every time the skin around my nails turn bright yellow for a little while. If you don’t want that you’ll have to wear latex gloves. The powder in my opinion is your best bet. It is still potent.
I just had the pleasure of being a guest at the luxurious Walnut Beach Resort.Walnut Beach Resort is a waterfront haven overlooking Lake Osoyoos in sunny South Okanagan, which is located in Canada’s desert wine country, about a five hour scenic drive from Vancouver.
Osoyoos from a distance
It was originally built to be private condos before deciding to turn the three-storey building into a resort which is run like a stylish boutique hotel. The lakeside rooms are all one or two bedroom designer suites with kitchenette and balcony. And a most comfortable bed. Our suite was pristine, the service was excellent, the poolside restaurant had a variety of mouth watering dishes or if guests prefer to do their own thing, there are several barbecues set up alongside the pool area for them to use.
Normally there is a private sandy beach but at this time the water was high so most of the sand was covered.
Local things to do include wine tours, championship golf, water sports or just lying by the pool guilty or a swim in the lake.
It’s a chic, comfortable place.
My only complaint is that I wish we stayed there longer. Which only means I’ll have to go back!
The Council of FashionDesigners of America, Inc. or CFDA for short, is considered the Oscars of the fashion world for those of you not familiar.
From L to R: *Diane Kruger in Monse dress, Karlie Kloss (Karlie, you’re a beautiful young woman but could you not do better?) in Diane Von Furstenberg, Gigi Hadid in The Row.
It is definitely one of the biggest nights in fashion after the Met Gala. Hosted by Seth Meyers, it was a star-studded affair at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, just days ago (June 6th).
All of the on-line fashion magazines have posted pics of their choices of best & worst dressed favourites but let’s cut to the chase and have a look at who wore it best (at least in my humble opinion). Because as it turns out, unfortunately I did not love most of the ensembles and in fact I detested many of them. But I liked:
Kerry Washington in Prabal Garung. Elegant!Actress Kate Bosworth ethereal wearing Brock Collection DressEva Chen wore a stunning Sies Marjan dress. Love the colour which she pulled off amazingly.
A bit about CFDA
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA), founded in 1962 by publicist Eleanor Lambert, is a not-for-profit trade association of over 450 prominent American fashion and accessory designers. The organization’s mission is to strengthen the influence and success of American designers in the global economy.
Bella Hadid wearing Off-White. And why not show off those legs?? Stunning!
*Diane Kruger always seems to get it right. And kudos to her for apparently not using a stylist or makeup artist. Really??!!
Where do you go for a good old spaghetti and meatballs these days? This was my favourite meal as a toddler and it’s still one of my all-time faves. When I was one year old, to my moms dismay I spilled a whole plate of spaghetti over my head on purpose. She was mortified but I was all smiles. True story (like why would I lie about that?). I was just showing appreciation. And might I add it’s a surefire way to grab attention. So where do you go??
If you live in Vancouver, many hours out of your way to The Colander restaurant in Trail, B.C. I’ve heard about the place for years but never experienced it until last week. The Colander has been owned by the LaRose family with a history dating back to their opening in 1972. With an open, casual atmosphere that lends itself to large parties along with intimate dining experiences the main attraction is plain old good Italian fare. And that’s good enough for me!
GREAT FOOD FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE
The Colander Special remains their most popular meal. It’s what I ordered although their menu has expanded over the years to include things like baked ziti, ribs, lasagna, etc. My intimate party ordered ribs with chicken along with spaghetti & meatballs and the meal came with simple salad and rolls.
A brief history:
Back in the days when immigrants flooded over from the “old country” to work at Cominco and the C.P.R., the men lived in boarding houses. The wives and children remained in Italy until the men could afford a home and enough money to bring their families here. In the meantime, the boarding houses did a booming business serving all-you-could-eat dinners at low prices. Meals are still served in the same manner as when they were first introduced back in the fifties. Despite numerous requests from me alone, the famous pasta sauce recipe, which has been carefully developed over the years, to this day, has remained a Colander secret.
The Colander Restaurant has been chosen by Beautiful BC magazine as one of the top 24 restaurants to dine in BC.
After dinner my friend ran into an Italian run store naturally called FormosaFoods to buy me her favourite bread; a homemade sourdough with dates and walnuts to take home. It was outstanding. fyi: I only have two pieces left. Another good reason to go back to Trail.
